Tree time

Collecting the silicone mold from the living tree — without harming it — on the trail at Lapham Peak.

Further views

The cork tree's leaning trunk shows a long open split of weathered wood, the photographer's shadow cast across the grass.

The slender cork tree in the meadow, bare zig-zag branches reaching into a bright autumn sky.

A purple clay slab pressed into the cork tree's warty bark to take its impression.
